SPONSORSHIPS
On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, St. Augustine College will host its El Puente Awards Scholarship Dinner at the new Marriott Marquis in Chicago. The El Puente Awards Scholarship Dinner is the largest and most important fundraising event where all the proceeds go to the St. Augustine College Scholarship Fund that awards scholarships to students in need of financial support. We invite you to join us!
This year the El Puente Awards Scholarship Dinner will honor the incomparable Miguel Del Valle with the El Puente Award for Exceptional Leadership. Mr. Del Valle is one of the Latino community’s utmost respected leaders because of his powerful work in breaking barriers to Latino leadership at the local, state and national level. The Chicago City Council Latino Caucus will be presented with the El Puente Award for Outstanding Leadership in Public Service for their collective work to protect and preserve the rights of Latinos in Chicago. Both Mr. Del Valle and the Caucus exemplify the mission of St. Augustine College by engineering bridges of opportunity for members of the community traditionally left outside the system.
St. Augustine College was founded by Dr. Carlos Plazas in 1980 with just a handful of students. Today, it is a nationally recognized Hispanic Serving Institution of higher education working with thousands of students and their families in Chicago, Aurora and the surrounding communities. Of the students that attend St. Augustine College, 87% are Latino.
St. Augustine College is a mission-driven, personalized, student-centered higher education institution which values bilingualism, student success, diversity, inclusion, innovation, and intellectual growth. Its mission is “to make the American system of higher education accessible to a diverse student population with emphasis on those of Hispanic descent; to strengthen ethnic identity; to reinforce cultural interaction; and to build a bridge to fill cultural, educational, and socio-economic gaps.”
